My pastel painting, Behind Market, was juried into Art in the Atrium 24. The curator exclaimed that he loved the dark colors used in the painting. (How nice to hear!) The exhibit will be on display in June 12 – October 17, 2023, at the George A. Purefoy Municipal Center Frisco.
The subject matter is based on a work trip to Bangalore India a few years back. It was a short drive on unpaved streets from my hotel to the well-paved area of IT business in Bengaluru. We happened upon this scene just behind a small business market with motorbikes and chickens.

Rita Kirkman's painting "Sun Candy" (pastel, 10x10 inches) has been accepted into the American Impressionist Society 2021 All Member Online Exhibition. Awards announcement on Facebook Live Saturday, Oct 30, 4pm ET on the Facebook AIS Page. The show will be visible on americanimpressionistsociety.org October 30 through December.

Rita Kirkman's painting "Elegance" (pastel, 12x6 inches) has won Third Place at the Pastel Society of Colorado's LET'S CELEBRATE! 2021 Small Works Pastel Show & Sale. Big thanks to show judge and juror Deborah Bays. The show continues at the Bitfactory Gallery, 851 Santa Fe Drive, Denver, CO through Dec 10.

Deborah Bays' comment on "Elegance": "The mystical elegance of the feline is captured in this painting. The excellent drawing of the graceful feline form is beautifully supported by the vertical format. The textures of the pastel strokes and the warm/cool color palette draw us in for a closer look but don’t overwhelm the strong presence of this Rex cat. This is no sentimental pet portrait. This painting feels truthful, respectful and affectionate."

Rita also has two works accepted into the Pastel Society of Colorado Let's Celebrate! 2021 Small Works Pastel Show and Sale. "Elegance" (12x6) and "Green Eye" (8x8) will show at the Bitfactory gallery in Denver, Nov 19 to Dec 10. Opening reception Nov 19, 5-8pm.

Rita is thrilled to brag that her painting "Cousins" (32x32) has won Second Place in the MidAmeria Pastel Society 2021 Members Only Online Show. A big thanks to judge Lorenzo Chavez. The show can be viewed at midamericapastel.com/works.
